I need advice before buying my first tractor... There is this 4x4 International 844 at the local dealer. It has 3700 hrs, Case loader and a Cab. Looks good on pictures, but I have not seen it in person yet. The dealer wants $10K CAD for it. I cant find any opinions on that model. Is that a good tractor? Anything I should pay attention to before I buy?

Thanks,

I've seen that tractor twice already... still can't make up my mind. The first time we went there was a lot of exhaust smoke in the cab after I drove it few circles in the parking lot. Also there was some blow by. The dealer said that they would fix the smoke problem and that a little blow by is normal for a tractor of this age. After a week or so they said that smoke in the cab problem is fixed and I went to see it again. Unfortunately there is still some smoke and might be burning oil smell in the cab. Maybe it's not so bad as the first time, but it still there. He said they would look at it again. I like this tractor, but not sure about the blow by and this smoke. Any advice?
Thanks,

Never seen a 844, but all 84 series tractors are good ones. They were made after the merger with Case as well, but called an 885/895, and then some of the newer ones were still made on the same order, but with different engines. If it is in good shape and 4WD with a loader it is a resonable price.

Ah, those x44 tractors are built in Germany. I know even less about 'em. My first reaction is $10K for a 4 cyl. tractor is a bit high, but I don't know what your resale market is like up North.

I forgot you said it has a cab, 4wd and loader. Then $10K wouldn't be a bad price.

Build in Germany, that sounds good in one way, but the parts might be expensive. I wonder if there were any equivalents build for US under different model number? I might be able to source parts that way?
I know $10K sounds expensive, but they had it listed at $15.9K, dropped the price to $12K and now are willing to let it go for $10K. Makes me suspicious... I need to go and take a look at it first.
Thanks again.
