got my motor back today from the machine shop. crank cut, heads all done, block tanked, decked and about ready to assemble. the shop does hi-perf race engines, blown alcohol, nitro and turbo drag motors. he set me up with a set of good guy head studs. studs came with nuts and washers. the super originally had washers down the center of the head under the rocker shaft. any problems running the washers on all the head bolts? i'll need to check for clearance, but i think the washers will be a little easier on the head than just the nuts run down on the castings. oh stud kit was 175.00, dealer wanted 285 for the ih ones.

The washer are used because the are tubes pressed through the head down the center holes. The washers are large enough the extend to the casting so the nut does not cover just the tube. If you look closely you will see which holes have the tubes. Those are the studs that must have the washers. Putting them on other studs as well should not cause any problems as long as you have enough threads on the studs. Originally there are longer studs for the holes with the tubes and where the throttle pivot plate bolts on.

The washers are under the 3 head studs that are next to the rockers, not under the rocker bases. They are used over the water jacket area of the head instead of the solid perimeter. The only situation I can think of is if your valves have been replaced with longer ones and the washers were used to compensate. I think you better check your valves.
