Did the super M have a different block than an M? Was that block the same as a 400-450?

Not right off, but 400 will have a C-264 on the right side of block just beneath the head. 450 C-281. Not sure if SM does or not. M does not. M and SM will not have a dipstick.

The SM and 400 are c-264 blocks and 450 is a c-281 block. Lee

And, to answer Andy's original question, the M is a 248 block (but can be taken out to 264 with a thin wall sleeve kit). mike

Mike, I thought I did answer the original question. Maybe I need to read my reply again to see what I did say. A balmy 19 degrees here this morning. The coldest night so far.

That is correct, but the 400 can be taken to 281 and that is as far as the 450 will go without machine work. So they are basicaly the same.

A little off topic but about 30 years ago I sold good 400 block for scrap (had bad crank and head) never imagined that anyone would ever want it.

Andy the M and SM do have different blocks. The M is C-248, that can be taken to 264. The Super is a C-264 that can be taken to 281. The casting numbers are likely different, but SM,400 and 450 are basicly the same block.
