Help me identify this IH loader

Hi,
My Dad just bought a 46 H on eBay. It has a IH loader on it. I'm not sure what model it is. Can someone tell me what model it might be?

Man, what a jewel! The teeth on those loaders were TOUGH! We had a neighbor that had one, saw him move a huge rock with just the tips of two teeth under it, they bowed about 30 degrees prior to the rock moving. I thought they would be be at that angle perminantly, they didn't even hesitate to spring back into shape when the load was taken off of them. (my $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

jal: Your right, I've seen those teeth spring back from unbelievable bending. IH didn't continue putting that same kind of steel into those. We traded our 31 for 33A in 1956, because we wanted hydraulic bucket control. The 33A teeth looked the same as 31, they were same size exactly. Big mistake, the 33A wouldn't lift near as much as 31, yet even though it wouldn't lift as much those teeth would bend. We only used that loader 3 years.

In 1959 we found a used Cockshutt 540 with a Wagner loader. There were a couple of reasons for that move; 33A loader was junk, we wanted 300 free of loader for field work and the Cockshutt was priced right. The Wagner had two completely separate buckets for garvel and manure. The round tapered teeth on the Wagner would bend easier than the old 31, however they were better than 33A.

Hi Andy, This is a model 30, notice the irons coming down from the front of the cylinders. There is a set of skids that mount there, they lift the load for the first 18 inches, most took them off because they didn't work that well. The 31 model came without them. Good luck, Chuck

I will have to look at my manuals, but I thought both models had the shoes on them. Not sure though.

Andy: It looks just like mine, and mine is a model # 31... It also looks like you have a M&W 202PX pump.

I believe it is a model 30. I believe the Model 31 has curved channel irons.

Andy,
It appears to be a model 31. One the big differances I have found is the way it mount son the front of the tractor. The 30 bolts to an M, but needs a set of adapter plates that bolt on the tractor for an H and the front brackets on the side of the frame slides into the brackets. On the 31, it uses a similar bracket, but to put it on an H you turn the frame mount bracket one way, to make it narrower, and then flipped over for the M, making it wider. So, I guess what I am asking is, how does the bracket the mounts on the front frame side mount on it? I have a manual for both 30 and 31, so if you will look and let me know I might be able to help

Andy: It's either 30 or 31, and I'll have to favour 30. My dad bought a new one in 51 on an H, and our neighbor bought a new on in 53 on a SM. those two were the same. This one is not exactly the same, and since the 33 was introduced around 54-55 with 300-400, I'd have to say my dad's and our neighbors were both 31 and this one is a 30. Sound reasonable?

No expert but it looks like a 30.Always thought those looked cool.I have a New Idea Horn # 50 loader on my H.It's all good.
