I HAVE ASKED THIS BEFORE,BUT NEVER HAVE GOTTEN A VERY HELPFUL ANSWER.HOW CAN I DETERMINE WHY MY 485 CASE/IH, 3 PT KEEPS DROPING AND RAISING,THAT IS,IT WON T HOLD IT S SET HEIGHT WITH AN IMPLEMENT ON, WHEN IT IS COLD?AFTER IT IS GOOD AND WARMED UP, IT WILL HOLD IT S HEIGHT.I KNOW IT IS A HYDRAULIC INTERNAL PROBLEM;MY DRAFT LEVERS,RAISE RESPONSE ARE ALL OK;IN FACT MAKE NO DIFERENCE.ONLY WHEN IT IS HOT,DOES PROBLEM GO AWAY.I WOULD THINK THAT AS OIL GETS WARMER AND THINS OUT,IT WOULD BYPASS SOME THING,NOT ACTUALY SEAL BETTER;UNLESS IT IS A SEAL OR O RING THAT SWELLS AND SEALS BETTER WITH HEAT.DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA HOW OR WHO COULD DIAGNOSE THIS.I REALLY APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL HELP.THANKS.

I don't know as I never had that trouble with any of mine before. I would suspect a problem with the draft sensor. It is behind the top link bracket on that tractor. The heat may swell the spool in it enough to seal it up after warming.

GEORGE,MY TOP LINK BRACKET APPEARS(TO ME)TO BE ATTATCHED TO SOME SORT OF A TORSION LINK,WHICH I THOUGHT WAS ATTATCHED TO THE REAR HOUSING.IF THERE IS A SENSOR,HOW DO I DIAGNOSE IT? I HAD THOUGHT THAT I HAD SOME SORT OF INTERNAL LEAK IN CONTROL VALVE,OR THE INTERNAL LIFT CYLINDER.THANKS,MARK.

Those torsion links are part of the draft sensing mechanism. Notice it has to holes for the top link. One is for light sensing and the other is for heavier sensing. I do not have my service manuals handy, and have not worked on any of the 54/64/74/84/85/95 series draft sensors, so I can't really advise you on this. If you will send me an email so I can reply to you. I will look into it some to see what I can dig up. I have worked on other models with similar problems, but haven't had any problems with my 84 and 85 series as of yet. I think if it was cylinder related it would leak off all the time, and cause the lift to jerk up and leak down again while tractor is running. That draft sensor is a control valve of sorts. It is hooked to the control valve to regulate implement draft. There is a linkage from the top link bracket to the sensor valve behind those torsion bars.
