Machine shop service

I've ordered a comprehensive engine kit from this site - less bearings (best to let shop match them up?). I'm sure they'll want the valves & guides, etc.

Any other do's or dont's??

ScottyHOMEy - I don't think the seats are too bad. I've owned & used this tractor for 20+ years. Old valves are still in. Looks like normal wear, But I'll prepare.

$179.00 for a set of head bolts? Seems like a lot! Only a couple have slight/med. rust. Can I still use them if I don't mangle them taking 'em out?

The head on my BN had been so full of water for so long that the seats were beyond salvation, and he had to machine it to take inserts. (The head on the BN did not have inserts, the seats were machined right into the head, and I think that's the case, too, with your SC head.) Just brace yourself for that, if it comes up.

I agree, too, that it's a good idea to let the shop that turns the crank supply the bearings. The shop I took mine to said they like it better that way, as well.

I think the cam does go right through the block w/o bearings.

Head bolts are still in. I suppose they should come out before I take it.

Doesn't look like it will have to be milled down, but again I'm not a machine shop guy. Should they have the sleeves also, in case want to mill everything down together?
