After reading the other posts, I have some comments.
1. The M & W hand clutch will not stand up to pulling.

2. On mine, which is on an M, it takes 3 disks, and they can be had for $70 each from an outfit in Nebraska, I have their name somewhere.

3. I have the original manual for an M&W, if that is what you are talking about, and want a copy.

Finally, I agree, dont let "kids" pull it. I consider anyone under 14 or so a kid.

Just my two cents worth.

Just bought a non running O-6 with a hand clutch.
I think it is called an "over center" type, but it wouldn't give a live PTO, would it?

Also, the orchard fenders are gone and I may turn it into a W-4 for use around the farm. I need a W-4 hood. The 0 hood has a cut out for the vertical muffler, but could be restord if someone needs one...

The 06 hand clutch merely substitutes a toggle action, "over center" hand-operated clutch for the more common spring-loaded, foot pedal-actuated clutch. Thus PTO still stops when the hand clutch is disengaged, same as with it's foot clutched cousins.

Hey guys, we may not be talking about the M&W hand clutch here, which really isn't a hand clutch, but merely a way of making the tractor think it has live power.

No, it seems that IH did offer an optional, over-center type hand clutch that replaced the foot operated clutch. Can anyone shed a bit more light on this?

Not to mention... Can you even get parts for these anymore? Usable ones are hard enough to find as it is, and you'll be tearing them up left and right.

Frankly, if your kids aren't big/strong enough to push the clutch pedal, they shouldn't be on the track. It's one thing to let them piddle-poke around the yard, but will the kid have the good sense to hit the kill switch if the tires hook up good and the tractor starts flipping over backwards as it's roaring down the track at full throttle? Kids, especially little kids, are prone to panicing and freezing up when presented with something unexpected, no matter how many times you tell them what to do in that situation.

That hand clutch is not made for slipping. It is meant to stop the forward motion while letting the pto run. If you slip it a bunch you will wear out the linning and then spend some money big time as parts are hard to come by.You should watch e-bay and get a manual for the M@W attachment you have. Then you will have a better idea what it was ment for and how to use it.
