Ok, like everyone else, I am deep in the throws of Xmas "broke" for a couple of months. I have been made an offer to buy a 1938 F-20, 2nd owner, running, complete, orginal, rebuilt magneto, decent rubber, fair paint, and very little significant rust.

$800.

Am I a fool if I pass this up? would have to cash advance a credit card, but could make it up over 2-3 months. I usually pay cash, and only when I have it.

C'mon guys, knock me one way or the other off the fence.....

Well, I decided to buy it. Most time it will take me is 3 months to pay the card off. Interest on that will be under $100 for that amount of time, which makes this a $900 tractor. I haven't seen one in this condition for under $1500+.

Yes, this has been on my wish list, and will keep my '49 Cub, '41 B, '46 BN, '51 SC, and '37 F-12 company.

All I need now is an A, H, and a SM. (ok, so an F-30 and a Regular wouldn't break my heart!!!!)

Goal is to have them all restored and in a row, then take a picture for posterity!!!!

Thanks for all the feedback and thoughts.

Merry Christmas!!!!

OK- Knock. You made an offer on a tractor you can't afford. What is the interest rate on your cash advance? $800- for an F-20 isn't out of line but not a good deal. What are you going to do with the tractor? It's not a very useful tractor if you are planning on a work tractor. If you are planning on reselling at a profit - not likely.

I'm a "you only go 'round once" guy. That sounds like a once in a lifetime deal, second owner, good shape. I assume this tractor has been on your wish list? IF you really aren't digging a hole you can't get out of, I'd get it. I always agree that cash is better, but if it'll be yours with cash by spring, I'd jump in a heartbeat.

Sounds like a good price to me BUT Certainly not worth putting on a credit card.. F20's are fairly easy to find.. save and wait..

No, I'd pass. If you start buying tractors you don't have the money for you will never have any money. And NEVER use those cash advance scams. Once you get hooked on that it is very hard to get free.

Tom, Most guy"s will work with you. See if you can give him a little down and pay it off over time. That way you get the great deal, you don"t use the card and you spread out the payments. oldiron29

Take your wife out to a nice dinner. She will help you decide on how to spend your money!
Then go for a round of Roger Welch's rodeo!
