headlight resistor - H O T

I have an "H", how HOT is that headlight resistor suppose to get??? When I switch the switch to "D" it gets DAMN HOT !!!!!

I too do not understand why you want to dim the lights ????? On the "B" setting, they are like candles anyway. LOL :) I am using 1133 bulbs. I never use the "D" setting because it gets hot and makes no sense to dim the already dim lights.

How often do you run "DIM" lights anyway? Can't see anything with 6V lights even on the bright setting. Never understood why they had a dim setting.

Heck if you figure even a lil 60 watt incandescent electric light, which converts some of its energy to LIGHT NOT HEAT gets so hot you cant touch it, it makes sense that say 20 watts of energy dissipation in the form of pure heat only (those resisitors arent very good as lights lol) should indeed get pretty dern hottttt ttt

I'll ad to Bob's Perfect answer that if the bulbs you use are any "brighter", taking more watts of electricity, it will burn out the resistor. The only Solution I know of is to use a separate switch for brighter lights, or a relay system to assure good brightness W/O stressing the original switch. JimN

The resistor turns the power NOT used by the bulbs into (guess what) HEAT.

They get DARNED HOT doint their job!
