I had a flat belt made with alligator clip fasteners that has yet to fail but I only run the thing for maybe ten total hours in a year at best. I had it made to the shortest lenght possible that would allow getting it on and assumed that the spring adjustment thingy would allow for whatever strech might occur.

The original belt looked like a flat black cloth with 4-5 cords sewed into it. good luck finding on of those that is useable. I got lucky and found an NOS one but you could tell it wouldn"t make more than a few turns before shredding. I got one from Rice Equipment. It is a good quality gum rubber coated canvas endless flat belt. There is no splice visable. worked great.

The Fordson House in Michigan sells them and other parts. They're on the internet. I need one, too.
