I wonder if I painted the rims on that W-6??
It would look better since ive seen the older Ad's in the late 40's with that, so i was thinking of doing that to my W-6 and seeing what it would look like,

The pictures in my 1941-1942 "The Tractor Field Book" show galvanized wheels on all of the Farmall, McCormick Deering, and International tractors. The pictures are black and white but the rims are definitely lighter than the red tractors and centers. These pictures also show the white stripes on the grills which was originally planned but was not used on regular production tractors. The white stripes are just shown on the pictures of the H & M so they must have been protypes. None of the others, except the crawlers, show the white stripes. The white stripes were used on production crawlers for a few years. What you see in "official" pictures does not always show the actual product. Automobile ads often altered even the shapes of the product to make it look faster, wider, or lower than it actually was.

The early letter series tractors had red painted wheel rims, I believe that the galvanized rims came in about 1943. My 1941 W-4 has read painted rims and the 1940 Farmall M that my grandfather had had red painted rims

Kirk,

It's your tractor so do what you like. However, none of the W-6 wheels were painted red from the factory in the 40's. If a 40's era ad shows red wheels, they must have been airbrushed on the ad.

Silver agent from IH works the best for me. Does not powder off like aluminum.

If you paint wheels it works good to hold a piece of valley tin about a foot or so long next ot the rim as you paint, much easier than masking. Lee

Rustoleum has some cold Galvanizing coating in rattle cans. Looks more like aged Galvanizing than Aluminum paint.

Is there a particular brand/part # for the aluminum paint that everyone uses? I have to paint my rims this spring, and Im just curious if there are any recommendations.

Thanks!

i have had good luck with just plain old rustoleum aluminum paint. add the valspar hardener if you can. its inexpensive, holds up pretty good, and is easy to touch up, especially if you have a flat and need to break down the tire.

The rims were originally galvanized. Most paint them with aluminum paint.

I was talking about red painton rim's
you mughtthink i was dreaming or had too much to drink, but thats what i was thinking, like the older ads in the 40's,
I like the look of toy farmalls & I was wondering if it would look any better than silver over red like stock farmall,
