The genny on my SH has never worked since I bought the tractor. I have rewired the entire tractor and replaced the main charging components including the VR. I troubleshot down to the genny and finally tonight I pulled the genny and opened it up. I have a broken brush spring and I suspect the broken piece found its way to the field windings and took it out. Now I have two problems. There is no tag on the genny, and I cant seem to find a supplier for Delco Remy generator parts. Rebuilding this genny is not outside the realm of my expertise. I would prefer rebuilding this genny so I know I have a DEPENDABLE unit.
Can anyone tell me where I would find parts to repair this? (Remanufactured gennys are pricy)
It is 6 volt and I prefer to keep it that way.
Thanks!

Had my 6v genny rebuilt for about $200. Well worth it in my eyes.

Amen to what Bob has said. Wayne knows just about everything in the starter/ generator/ alternator line.

You should be able to get new fields from a generator place soldering in is another problem. your generator should be either a 1100501 or 1100531 you can get a rebuilt for 120 exchange.

There's NO soldering involved inswapping out those GENERRATOR fields. A STARTER is another, matter, though!

Thanks for the contact, Bob. The armature looks to be in very good condition, the commutator also. The field windings are burned up. I would like to replace the field windings, brushes and brush tensioning springs. The bearing / bushings at either end are also in very good condition.

I am in NO WAY associated with that company, but have bought parts from them several times, with GREAT SUCCESS.
