My 43 Farmall H starts right up, runs well for about 2-3 mins. and the as if you shut the ignition swich off...dead. Won't fire again. It's a new 12V coil w/built in resister. New as of today. No noted heat, as cold at the rest of the tractor even after killing. I have wires out of alternater to the (+) of coil and the (-) of coil goes down to the distributer. The 12V battery is negative grounded. help and thanks, Dan

I think it should be + to the distributer - to the switch on the coil hookup.

starts in the coldest of weather, runs well for about 2-3 minutes...then as if you pushed in the switch...off...then no re-fire...haven't pulled plug or used testers yet...thurs. I hope to try this. Thanks.

Your wire from your ignition switch should be going to the coil not from your alternator. With your points open you should have battery voltage on both small terminals on the coil when the ignition switch is in the on position. Check that with a volt meter or test lite. You should pull of your plug wire's off and see if you have fire to the plug when someone makes an attempt to start the tractor with the switch on, if you do have fire to the plug you probably have a fuel problem with dirt or rust blocking the fuel. Ok, I checked the wire-set up. It's battery to the dash-box. out of box down to a "splice" where the alternator (out) is spliced with the switch wire that connect to the (+) of coil. Then only the (-) from coil to distributor. The Dash-box fuse is intact. When I pull the switch on, I do not a large drop to the "discharge" side of guage. I have no lights or anything else hooked that could make a draw that I know of anyway.

Your alternator has nothing to with the ignition. It's purpose is to keep the battery charged. You should post a picture on how you have the tractor's ignition wired.

You need to use a test lite or volt meter to see if there's battery voltage at the ignition switch
and at your coil. You can tell if the ignition is ok by pulling off a plug wire and hold it near the plug while someone makes an attempt to start your tractor. If you have fire from the plug wire you probably have fuel problems. Hal
Post a picture of that alternator splice.

Wow...do I see an issue now after seeing the drawing...Why I did it...who knows...ok, on the alternator...the #1 drops down to the coil and the #2 goes back to the battery...just like you said...re--charges the battery. My splice runs the #1 into the #2 line...just father down the line where the 10Ga. wire is...thus sending a charge from the alternater into the coil...at least I think that was what will happen...ooops
