Super A Hydraulic Pump Problems?!

My hydraulic pump was working well but I was losing hydraulic fluid into the crankcase and so I pulled the pump and replaced the shaft seal.(appreciate everyones previous feedback) E
verything else looks very good. The pump was in good shape. The gentleman whom I purchased the seal from inspected the pump and also said it seemed to be in really nice shape.

I"ve now got the tractor back together, I"ve changed the engine oil and completely cleaned out the hydraulic fluid reservoir and filter and refilled according to the original specs. I let the tractor idle with the filler hole open and worked the levers back and forth as spec"d to purge the system of air. NOTHING?! I did this for quite awhile...I tried putting the filler plug in to build some pressure and still nothing...tried again with filler plug out.

It seems now that the pump is not moving any fluid or something? There is seemingly no hydraulic response at all.

Anyone have any tips, thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks...

I had exactly the same problem when I replaced the seal on my SA last spring. Finally solved it by slathering the pump full of vaseline when I reassembled it. Picked up its prime right away. Hope this helps.

I am not familar with A, but on the cub there is a plug on the manifold where it goes to the TC unit. Remove the top one with it running and see if fluid comes out.

Try those things Jim mentioned, and don't give up. There is nothing wrong with your pump, just hard to prime back up sometimes. It will.

Some of the pumps have a small plug in the top that would allow priming. There may be a sprong and ball under it. Moving the tractor with the nose 2' below the rear wheels (into a ditch carefully possibly) and using up to 30 PSI on the filler of air pressure are all possible solutions. Keep comming back (even if just to tell us it is fixed) JimN

Excellent suggestions....but unfortunately no luck yet?!

The pump appears to be the original Pesco. Theres no hole for priming.

I tried the ditch and put 30psi to the filler hole. It did seem to help push fluid through as it took the other two pints the specs called for but ultimately the pump still doesn't seem to be building any pressure.

Any other thoughts?

Is it time to dismantle this thing and try again on the rebuild?(the pump did move oil before I put it back on the tractor - I filled it and turned the external gear and oil came pumping out...so I'm not sure exactly what else to look for)

Thanks again...

Don't tear it down yet. Leave the fill plug out, and work levers back and forth while tractor is running. It'll prime.
