Shorty muffler ideas for a Cub

In the process of reconstructing a TwinDraulic loader frame on my Cub, I've discovered that the 3" square tube I used to mount the loader to the final drives interferes with the underslung muffler. The exhaust pipe can't be angled enough to get the muffler around the loader frame.

Until I get the frame mocked up, I don't want to take it off the tractor, but I still need to move it around and use it occasionally. I'm in a semi-rural residential neighborhood, but the tractor is simply too loud without a muffler.

I've got the exhaust pipe installed, but that doesn't help much. A muffler that's 12" or less in length would work. Does anybody know of anything that might fit that description? The exhaust pipe is 1-1/4" outside diameter and about 1-1/8" inside.

If you purchase a 2' section of stainless steel flex tubing the correct inside diameter, it will allow the existing muffler to bypass the frame. JimN

Maybe check out the Harley dealer for a shorty muffler with baffle? Ask about used pieces from back shelf, $5.00 got me a shorty that fits a 12hp Tecumseh in a Simplicity, quiet the cub down for awhile, cheap. RN

Could you go to a muffler shop and have them bend you a 90 so the muffler down paralell to the hood or even bend a u-shaped and hang the muffler down. I do this so the muffler hangs down and not hit the tree limbs.

Look up "Hushpower" mufflers on Summitracing dot com

Link

No personal experience with them, but have read many good reviews on them being a compact and reasonably quiet muffler...

If you don't want to go that route, they do make glass packs that are 12" long and not too big around, too.
