Gentlemen and Ladies, I need help. An I am not talking about the head shrinking kind either!

I have a Cub low-boy that has a hydraulic pump mounted on the engine-you know for the touch control. I recently rebuilt the tractor after it sat for 7 years. The hydraulics had always worked well, but since the rebuild I have had to add oil to the hydraulics twice. I went to use the tractor last weekend only to find out that there was no hydraulics. Hmmmm. So I checked the dip-stick and sure enough the oil level is 1" higher than full---the seal is shot on the pump and leaked all that oil into the engine. So, I took the pump off and found that there is a leather seal for the pump and it's dried up and cracked. WHERE do I find another seal? Can I buy one? Should I bored it out for a modern rubber press in seal? Anyone know what to do?

As usual, thanks for saving my blood pressure. Ron in Michigan.

Just take the old seal to any parts house and they will get you a new one. If the shaft is worn where the seal fits you will need a speedy sleeve. Take the pump along so they can get the correct speedy sleeve as you probably need one.

Here are couple pics.
You will need the correct pump number when ordering kit. Good luck.

The service manual shows two seals. The leather seal is labeled as "Old Type". The new type shows as an "O" ring. I am doing the same thing. I have not taken mine off yet. I have been draining the oil out of the engine and putting it into the hydraulics. Trying to get through the winter garden season!

farmall.com has sponsors that sell cub parts also.
should be a number on the pump so you can get the right parts.

I don't have a breakdown on the Cub's pump, but this one may be similar. It's fairly common for these old seals to become harden and then wear a groove in the shaft. Napa has speedi-sleeves and Case/IH should have them too. The same thing happens to the hub on the crankshaft pulley and will cause an engine oil leak and a speedi-sleeve
will cover this worn area too. Hal

Rebuild kits are available from your IH dealer. The front seal is sold seperately from the kit.

You will also need to know which hydraulic pump you have. I believe there are two different pumps available
