'Nother CharLynn Power Steering Question

Okay,

Forward end of the torque motor.

When I installed the system on my H, the front coupler had to be a "U-joint" type to allow for a small difference of direction change.

Is this NOT the case when installing on a M? I see the ones they sell are just a straight coupler with two roll pins.

What does it take to hook 'er up to the front steering shaft? Wobbly coupler or not?

Thanks,

Allan

Folks, a wobble connector is needed to take up the give and take in the steering shaft. Without the wobble connector the roll keys will shear unexpectly. Don't ask me how I know. Marv

Heck,

Those wobble joints will shear 'em too. I ended up putting grade 8 bolts in my H wobble/slip joint.

I have always installed the wobble coupler and also have had to shim the torq.motor some.

Sorry, I mistook wobbly coupler. 2 pin coupler that GordoSD speaks of is not solidly pinned, has a little wobble to it, connects motor to front shaft. There I"m sure I made that clear now LOL.

This is the wobble style coupler.

They are on both my Super M, and MTA, and work great.

They are kinda up there in price.

I had to buy one for the SMTA, think I got it from the place below;

Wobly coupler goes toward front, front shaft gets cut off,motor fits under hood, original u-joint connects to rear of motor. Original bearing is replaced by a bracket that secures motor.

Got one here off my SMTA and it was just a straight coupler from the motor to the shaft. But it was installed out in front of the hood. I'm goint to reinstall soon under the hood, so when you get done you can walk me through it.
