Is there a source for a new serial number plate for my Super M-TA? My SN is readable, but that's all. Thanks!

I'll do my best to answer your question. IMO the only source for correct tags is Robert Deiner (mentioned by someone else below). His are the only ones that are "relief etched". In other words, the black part is recessed below the silver part. This is the way the originals are. The other ones are a flat piece of aluminum with the black painted on. There is no texture. His are not cheap, but they cost a lot more to produce that way. I have seen a few of his samples for the F-series and they are a perfect match to the originals. He has done a lot of research to get all the minute details right and to offer all the different variations.

With all that being said, I prefer to keep the original tags if possible. But If I had to replace one, his are the only ones I would use.

Ok City, I shouldn't even respond to this. But when a question is asked, we often times go off on our own tangent, rather than even attempting to answer the question at hand. Shoot! From some responses on these forums, I'd say we don't even really read what we're responding to. We just want to get another post notch in our belts.

My original question was, "Is there a source for a serial number plate?" It WAS NOT, "Should I replace my serial number plate?" If the latter had been a question in my mind, I would have asked it. Answers other than to the question asked are not helpful in my mind. They just take up board space without merit. If my response offends some people, I'm sorry for it. But we, myself included, need to start paying attention to the advice that is asked for and not try to turn it in a different direction Sorry, but that's where I'm at. I guess if you or anyone else wants to blackball me for this attitude, it's your perrogative.

As long as the debate is going anyway...

I think a new serial number tag will look best on a restored/repainted/refurbished tractor. Personally, I would just be sure to keep the original tag somewhere safe.

Thanks for the info. The reason I want a new plate is because I intend to restore this tractor to show quality and not to sell it any time soon. That should stop the advice to keep the old tag on the tractor.

Could be -- but I have a 460 Hi Utility, maybe 1/2 or 1% of the production numbers of the SMTA (SMTA is more valuable). I too am attempting to put it back in original condition, but the old serial tag stays. I have a stage 2 Super H and a C that I refurbished (I won't use the term restored) with new tags, and have second thoughts about doing that. The C tag is a replacement of a replacement though. I still have both old tags -- The SH might have some value some day, the C won't. Every one has different opinions and not every one is 100% correct on much of anything.

Have to agree with you, no advice was asked for. Answer was not intended to ruffle feathers, Don't worry your answer has stopped any further advice from this poster.

I prefer a new tag, and then keep the old one as proof if I sell the tractor. The OEM tags are of rather poor quality, I have bought 2 and won't buy any more. The person D Slater mentions is Robert Diener, 304-599-4027. He is more careful and the tags are likely correct -- will order my next one from him.

Thanks Paul, but link doesn't work for me. As to the rest of you, I don't believe I asked whether I should replace the plate or not. I asked if there was a source for it. Thanks for help in that direction.

This is just my opinion and others are different. If I was looking to buy or have I would prefer to see one like yours as to find a replacement tag put on. Your tractor though. There's a fellow in WV that does serial tags also.

I agree with Slater. My Dad has a Stage II Super H with a low first gear, now you cant read anything but the number and M J, IMO there nothing better to see than a factory tag as long as the numbers are still good leave it. But that just my opinion.
