If 10530 is the serial, then what are all the numbers in front? Usually IH listed the serial numbers after the F.

And that begs the question of the 'U'....this is a row crop tractor, so even if IH went with the obvious, as in utility, it still seems really odd.

Kind of a fine line between the Utility, row crop, and wheatland versions of the "larger" tractors during that time period. At that time the row crop was still Farmall. The 666 only came in the International version -- thus it may have been considered a "utility". It also came in a high clearance version. I have never seen one, so should not comment -- info is from the literature I have. You can cultivate with utility type tractors. "Generally" they were not used with front mount cultivators, there are exceptions, maybe the 666 is one of those.

I have never seen a 666 utility. All I ever seen have Farmall 666 on the model tag and International on the hood. 666 was designed for front mount cultivators same as all Farmall tractors. It is a Farmall. It is a genuine row crop tractor. Mine even has the tricycle Farmall front end.

As I stated, I haven't seen one. Also the books I have don't show the pictures, so I assumed the International only as listed in Ken Updike's book meant there was no row crop, instead of there being no utility. As your picture indicates, I was wrong as I have never learned not to assume anything. Obviously that is a row crop -- NOW (too late to weazel out of my mistake) I suddenly regained my brain function. I was thinking of a 606, of which there is not "supposed" to be a row crop version, only a Utility -- haven't seen one of those in person either, so I won't comment further. I left the farm in 1960, retired in 2001, began to collect and study International after 40+ years, I should not comment on anything newer than a 460/560. Enough baloney.

read Ken's book again, carefully. within a few pages of the info you are remembering, i believe he also writes that beginning with the '66 series, the Farmall name was dropped, and the series number was the only indication of row crop, utility, etc.

CNKS it doesn't matter one bit, that is why this is such a great forum. Have plenty of folks to catch mistakes. You are 100% correct about the 606 it was available as utility only as far as I know. I have seen a couple of them, and they were utility tractors.

Serial number is the last 6 digits. Don't know what all that other stuff means.
