Have read and researched the posts of the pros & cons of the solid state ignitions vs the breaker style.
Had considered changing to 12V neg. gnd, but all else with my 6V system works fine. After I found out that the parts were available for 6V pos gnd I decided to give it a shot and see how well they work.

I ordered the Pertronix parts to fit my 340 from this site.

You would be mich wiser and tons of money ahead keeping your system original and in good shape. This forum is full of people changing to 12v and what else then havng trouble and asking for help. Just do yourself a big favor and put it like it was built take care of it and it will last and last.

Gene:

I agree with you. The biggest reason I considered the 12V conversion was for the electronic ignition. But after I checked out the Pertronix site and found that they made parts for both 6V and 12V, pos gnd and neg gnd the thought of changing to 12V kinda went away.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right.

Keep the points and associated parts, JUST IN CASE the smoke ever leaks out of the electronic unit. You can then put it back to original, while you wait for a new EI unit. BT,DT.

I understand what you mean, about that little can of smoke built into the electronic parts!!!

Searched the Pertronix site and found the installation instructions. With no modifications to the distributor short of removing the points and condenser, they state to save them as a back-up to the EI parts.

You will also have the wiring lead, and the feed-through insulator parts to hang onto.

Bob:

From the instructions it looks like the wires from the EI feed thru the lead wire hole. I"m bad about saving things both good and worn out. Sometimes if you can"t find new, a worn part can be renewed.
