Hello I have a 1939 H aqnd the radiator sprung a leak and I had to take it off. I need to know can them bolts in the bottom of the radiator where they go trough the frame be replaced. I noticed they had threads on each end and a spring on them and the end up in the raditor screwed up it to it but the things that held them striped out and I had to take a hacksaw to one and cut it to get the raditor off to be repaired.

Thanks David

On my M and Super M, the studs are threaded into the bottom of the tank. I just went to my local Carquest and sifted through their parts drawers and found exactly what I needed. Trick is getting the old broken stud out of the radiator.

One of the studs was rusted nearly through and broke off mine when I was removing it. My radiator guy told be the studs are made onto a larger plate that is riveted and soldered into the bottom tank of the radiator. He said if I wanted he could remover the lower tank, take the plate out, replace the stud and reassemble it all, but it would be expensive.

His alternative repair was to cut the stud off flush, weld a new stud onto a u-shaped bracket shaped to the bottom of the tank and solder it on. I worked fine installed like stock and isn't readily visible from the outside.

Take yours to your radiator guy and I'll bet he has a viable fix.

I just made up two the other day. Used a 4 1/2 inch 7/16 NC grade 3 bolt. Cut it to correct length. Then threaded the smooth end about 3/4 of an inch down with the correct NF die. Then drilled the hole for cotter pin. Picked up two new 7/16 NF castille nuts at Menards. Total cost $1.60 vs the 15 dollars the IH dealer wanted. And Menards had a 5 inch piece of 3/8 pipe for the drain pipe also. Gordo
