Still looking for a '56 or '06. I've noticed two different wheelbases for 656 wide fronts. One setup has the axle up front, where one would expect. The other one has the axle tucked back some from the front. Looks to be a much tighter turning radius. What would I call this short wheelbase option? Was this IH or aftermarket? Looks like it would make loader work a bit easier, and looks to be something I would want. Anything y'all can tell me about it would be of interest.

Good information! Farmall forward. International utility or wheatland back. I never would have thought about wear, and that's good information! With the amount I use my tractors, I don't think that will be an issue, except when I inspect the tractor I'm getting. Nebraska Cowman's point is *MOST* excellent. With the front wheels (fulcrum) farther forward, the tractor won't get quite as light on the rears, as it would with the front axle back farther. Good information, too, on the 2250 loader. Wow! I learn all kinds of stuff here.

i have both models of 656s, and have had a 2250 loader on both. the international utility(swept-back) front axle does indeed turn shorter than the farmall front axle. unfortunately, the way the int axle is attached, it wears much faster on the bushings and pins/castings. the farmall front axle doesn't show anywhere near the wear, even after longer use.

Do you remember studying fulcrums and leverage in school?

The one with the forward axle is a Farmall (row crop). The one with the rearward is a International (utility, standard )
