I'm preparing to reinstall the fuel tank on a Super H that I took apart in October. An elderly neighbor had asked me to clean the rust out of the tank for him and now that I have that done, time to put her back together.However... when I took it apart, things didn't seem to be as original. I found three springs, one of which was 1/2 as long as the others. There were three 7/16 or so washer under the nuts, though only two of the studs had larger washers on top of the tank mount between the spring and mount. These two larger washers also had notches cut into them, probably to make a previous install easier. There were only two rubber-like bushing, both mounted up against the tank. I've read though the archives here (most helpful) as well as looked at the parts diagram at IHCase, so I know what parts I'm supposed have: 1 washer, 1 spring and 1 nut for each stud. The parts diagram does not really show the assembly order though. Now my question: I'm not at all confident that how I found it was how it's supposed to be. So, I want to ensure I have the correct ORDER these parts are installed. I would guess the spring goes ABOVE the mounting pad, over the stud, between the tank bottom and pad, thereby allowing the tank to essentially "float", with the springs bearing the weight of the tank. The rubber pad would sit against the bottom of the tank, with the spring bearing against this rubber washer. I would also then expect the regular washer would go on the BOTTOM of the mount, between the mounting pad and the nut. How'd I do? Note, I'm intending to round up the correct-type parts before I actually put it back together. Thanks...
