Votage regulator on Cub??

Have a 1948 Cub 6 volt with a voltage regulator that has one connection on one side and only 2 on the other. It is a mag system now. Is this the correct regulator for this model or has it been messed with? All wiring was off the tractor when I got it. All my other Farmalls have 3 post on that side. Could use a good diagram for getting the wiring back on. Also a diagram for swithcing this over to a distributor system if anyone has one. Thanks

Sounds like you have a cut-out and not a regulator. Chances are that what itis as they didnt go to regulators untill later but how do you know whats been changed over the yrs. If you take it off the generator there will be a DELCO REMY parts # on the bottom. Your generator probably has the third brush adjustable for charging rate. With a magneto you dont need a verry high charge as the only voltage you need is for starting. Does your lite sw have 4 position sw.

Big dog, Thanks for the diagram. This is the system on it now. Wondering if you could tell me how the ignition on and off is wired into the system. The diagram does not show one.

With magneto ignition the magneto "kill" wiring is completely independent of the rest of the electrical system.

Instead there's simply a wire running from the mag's shorting terminal to one terminal of the ignition switch; the other ign switch terminal then connects to ground.

However if you've swapped the magneto for a coil and distributor, connect the hot side of the ignition switch to the ammeter post that's connected to the light switch fuse holder.

If the light switch has L-H-D-B it was originally a cutout system (assumes correct switch)
If the regulator you have has three terminals Bat-GEN(or ARM)-and F for field, it is a regulator system. The difference between a three, and 4 post is the terminal marked L. it is for Load, and was used for the light switch, and other accessories. Hooking the Bat terminal to the Amp meter is correct (it goes on the side that is not attached to the battery through the starter switch. Bob M diagrams (in search for) are great JimN

The early charge system used a cutout rather than a regulator and the charge rate was controlled through the light switch. If the link works, it will take you to a wiring diagram
