Started running real bad. Starts but no power, missing and sputtering and throttle won't rev up the engine at all. Also spitting gas from the bottom of the port in the carb. Only spits gas when running. I'm thinking float but wanted input before I split the carb.

The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 if you want to check for plug wire pranksters. Could be kids, neighbors, your brother-in-law, or your coffee shop buddies.

They have this moisture removing spray you can get in a can that may help if there is moisture in the dist. You can check the dist. seal to see if it is ok.

I don't know if this will work, but you might try pulling one plug wire at a time while it is running to see if you can isolate which cylinder is the problem if there is a stuck valve. Then you could squirt some oil in the spark plug hole to lube it. For that matter it might not hurt to pull and check all the plugs and squirt some oil in all the cylinders.

I don't know if a blown intake manifold gasket would do the same thing or not.

Let us know what you find.

Scott Rukke said: (quoted from post at 19:21:19 01/28/08) No. It's behind a fence and no one is around. One day ran perfect and the next it didn't. It did start when the weather cooled down.

Those are perfect conditions for "pranksters." A car full of kids cruising by, nobody around, hop the fence, mess with some guy's tractor. Hilarity ensues...

I will "third" the water in the dist cap and or stuck intake valve posts. squirt some kero or pb blaster or somekind of oil in the carb intake (take hose off) when it is running, it might come loose, but check for water first. If it sat at one time for a long while sometimes a valve spring will get weak on a valve that was held open when it was shut off before parking it so that may be something to check later down the road.

Did someone pull a prank and switch a couple wires?

I agree with Glennster AND RustyFarmall AND Centaur. But..... you did not say - is there a lot of black smoke coming from the muffler whilst all this rude behavior from your engine is taking place? Black smoke means running rich; Running rich could be because of intermittant missing, OR because of something gone wrong in carb.

sounds more like moisture in the distributor cap. pull the cap and peek inside. you can also try a timing lite and see if the mark is jumping all over when running.

Or an intake valve stuck open.
