Super H Rear Rim Question

Howdy, boys: My super H (very late 1953) has what I call "single bevel" rear rims. They are 10" wide. I always figured somebody had changed them and that they were from an F-300. I thought super H's originally came with double bevel rims - like on an M, for example. Now, the other day a fellow tells me that mine are correct because they are only 10" wide and therefore only had enough width for a single bevel style design. (I have never had the tires off to where I could see the date stamp on them.) What is the correct rim style/type/design for a Super H with 10" wide rims, please? As always, thanks in advance for your help and knowledge. Much obliged.

My 54 SH II(last week of production) has the drop center 11 inch rims. They are stamped 5 - 54 Firestone inside. Either the beveled or drop center will work on the same wheel. Look at the clamps closely. They can be used in several different applications.

Both types are correct. IH bought rims from different suppliers. The drop with no step and with step could both be found in 10 X 38 in 53.

I don't think swapping to the double bevel rims will be quite that easy. I might be wrong, but I think the cast centers are more or less specific to each rim, and won't interchange.

Gee, I don't know, Rusty. That is certaily something to check out. My centers are dated in the same range as the rest of the tractor (11/53), so maybe the single bevel rims are the originals. Centers are also 6-spoke and not 8-spoke like an F-300 has. Thanks. mike

Mike I think the confusion with Rusty is in the names you're using for the rims. Different people use different terms to describe the rims. Right or wrong I use the term double bevel for the rims used on the 8 spoke wheel that started after the early 300 and 400 farmalls and used on a lot of tractors. The drop center rim that slopes from center drop to near rim edge I call non step. The one that has a step near center and another step down to near edge, I call the step type, some call them double or triple drop.

I see. Well, in that case, I guess the type on my SH would be called non-step, and the type I thought a SH should have would, by your definition, be called step type. I referred to them as single bevel and double bevel - single bevel being the newer type I associate with the F-300 and double bevel being the type I associate with an H or M.
I need to learn the proper terms and use them. Thanks, "Coach".

Don't know if I'm using the correct names, just pointing out that different people use different terms. Farmall 300 tractors used the same wheel and single piece drop center rim combinations in different widths as the SH to tractor serial # 3726, then double bevel or the rim that has 2 different mounting rings for clamps. There were other wheel, rim combinations, but what I refer to is the most common.

Mike, I had the original tires changed off of 26842 J. They had an early month 54 date stamped in them (March ?). They are the double bevel type, 28703 J also has the double bevel type rim but I dont know that tractors history so they may or may not be original. I"m not sure if they are 11" wide on both tractors but I believe they are. Why the name change from cityboy? Hope this helps some, Pat

Hi, Pat:
Thanks for the info. I guess somebody put F-300 rims on mine (20856 J) before I got it. Probably the old ones had rusted out.
Name change: Well, I changed it because I don't live in the downtown Pensacola anymore. I am sure enjoying the rural life in North Alabama, though, and so are my old Farmalls. Send me an updated SH list every now and then. mike durhan
