How do you remove the belt pulley on a narrow tread F-20? It is no where near coming off the spline before hitting the bull gear. Please don't tell me I have to remove the bull gear.

Took the 4 bolts off and it came out. It was still tight and took a bit of wiggling and fenagling. They sure don't give you much room. Thanks fr the help

When you remove the 4 bolts and loosen the flange, the pulley and the exterior drive should slide off. The two parts of the dtive mechanism fit together in a slot mechanism. You shouldn't have to drain the transmission if you don't mind dripping a little oil-maybe a cup or two. The bearing in the side of the transmission should keep most of the oil inside.

You have to remove the whole assy. from the base of the pulley that mounts to the transmission. Remove the four nuts and slide the pulley and shaft as a whole. Then you can separate the pulley from the shaft.

Do I have to drain the tranny oil?

You have to drain it to that level at the least. Or loosen the nuts a tad and break the seal loose and let the oil drain while the pulley is still attached. Your choice. I would just drain the whole tranny and replace the leaky seals and gaskets while you have the oil out. Or maybe you've already done that.

I thought of that too, that must be the right way to do it!

Does it come off if you remove the rear wheel? Or is the transmission in front of the pulley? I can't remember.

The rear wheels are off. It hits the bull gear almost immediately after you try to slide it off the spline.

The correct pulley for the NT has more offset. You may have the wrong one.

The correct pulley on an NT only gives you enough room between it and the bullgear to slip a belt in there.

Howard I was thinking the same thing as you and then I tried putting the regular (non-offset) pulley on the NT and it would not fit.

The pulley has a lot of offset but still won't come off by itself. The measurements for the pulley are 15-1/4" by 6-1/2" and the spokes are offset nearly all the way to the outer edge. According to the measurements the pulley would be part #31619DX although I haven't found the casting number yet.
