Just got this thing running. It's been sitting for years. Had a stuck valve. Got that broke loose. Runs like a top. But has a knock. Sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine. As it warms up, you can hear the engine start to work harder then it seems to loosen up and run easy. All the while the knock deosn't get any worse or better. This is doing this idleing. Don't want to rev it up or seize it up. Question is, wrist pin, main bearings or rod bearings? Has good oil pressure. Any ideas? Thanks.

To add another sujestion to whats already posted I have found the cam gear hub loose on cam before and sounding like a rod knocking. Could be several things though, check easy things first.

Got a chance to play with it again tonight. Couldn't get it to knock at first. Started reving the heck out of it. It started to make a knock. Took plug wires off. Didn't stop. Played with the hydraulic lever, at first it didn't make much difference, reved up some more, the knock went away. My thought is... the valve that was stuck, might still have been sticking alittle bit. Or the hydraulic pump didn't have any oil in it, but does now. I've let it run for the last half hour running it hard and easy. Can't make it knock at all now. Maybe just from setting so long, things needed to get freed up and oiled up. Thanks for all the answer and thoughts.

Bad cam gear indeed! I've had a couple cam gears let go and cause knocking just as described.

If the Super H is a Stage 2 (it has live hydraulics...) try loading the hydraulic system with the engine idling. If there's a noticeable change in the knocking sound - or if it disappears - when the hyd pump is loaded it's highly likely the cam gear hub has broken.

Take the plugs out and look as you bring each piston up to top dead center. I had an H that sat for a long time and some rust and crud got sucked into the cylinders and created a knock sound. Just maybe.

Let it idle, pull off number one plug wire and see if it sounds different,Try no 2,3,4 You can also try putting your ear to a long screw driver and hold it against the front of the block in different places and find where the knock is

may have either spun a rod or main bearing. if its pulls down, sounds like a bearing somewhere. at this point, i wouldnt run it till i found the problem. drop the oil pan and check the rod bearings, then drop the mains and check em. if it ate a bearing, your gonna need to split it and have the crank cut. very first thing i would do is drain the oil filter housing into a container and look for metal shavings. there should be a littlepipe plug at the filter base, unscrew this plug drain a little oil at a time and give it a good looking over. i like to spill a little on a sheet of paper and smear it around looking for metal fileings.
