I'm in the process of resealing my M Belt Pulley Drive and have ran into an issue requiring your expertise.
The parts book shows two "O"Rings ( 259246R1 and 357204R1 ). Neither of these rings were in the Drive when I dismantled it. Is this an upgrade that was not in the original Drive? Installing them will result in the gears being moved out a tad as the O Rings of course do not compress completely when the bolts are tightned. Thanks

If the flange does not have grooves to accomodate the O rings, I would not install them, as this will affect the gear setting as well as put more strain on the flange retainer bolts. The O ring is designed to seal while still allowing the flange to bolt up solid to the mating surface. The O ring can only do this if it is in a properly designed groove. My parts CD shows two versions of the belt pulley assembly. One has the O ring, the other does not. the one with the O ring shows a steel pulley, so I expect it is the later version.

My parts book was printed in 1954 and does not show any O-rings for the belt pulley drive. Unless there is a grove specifically for an O-ring, I would not use any, since the use of an O-ring without a grove will result in the gears not meshing properly.

My book shows them both ways. Attachment 357184R93 has the O rings. I thought possibly it was an improved design and the rings should be used. As you said it seems like there should be a grove and there certainly isn't one on my unit . I'm going to take your advice and omit the rings. Thanks for the response.

My parts cd shows the 357204R1 on the shaft that the pulley actually mounts on. It shows a 357190R1 on the drive shaft side.

My Drive did not have O Rings when I took it apart and I have been told that the older units didn't use them. My question is " should I install the O Rings?? The gears will move back a bit due to the thickness of the O Rings.
Thanks
