Is the 140 capable of handling a 3 point rotary tiller? I am not certain considering the vertical and horizontal offsets of the PTO shaft. Some of the models I have researched are right at 300 lbs. Is this weight within the working range of the hydraulic system and safety tolerances of the 140? I am considering a rotary tiller as long as the tractor is capable of handling it without creating any serious problems. Experienced folks help me out please.

Patrick: The 140 will lift the weight, Generally the limit is considered about 600#. I regularly lift a 1,000# disk with my 130 or 140, but I have a modified hitch.

CNKS has nailed your real problem Farmalls are just too fast in low gear for tillers to do their job. He's giving the thumbs up to TA equipped tractors, I don't even do that, still too fast. Besides, most folks in small garden situation tend to create a concrete out of soil. Things don't grow well in concrete. You pulverize any soil fine enough and it will act like concrete.

you're better off with a small tandem disk harrow, peg tooth harrow, rotary hoe, or any number of non pto tillage tools. first because the tractor isn't suitable and second because tillers can overwork the soil, as someone said on this topic a few weeks ago. if you need a tiller for a special reason, then you may have to rent or buy an outfit depending on how often you need one.

It may have enough power, but the main problem is the tractor is not geared slow enough to make it work properly. The same is true of any letter/hundred series tractor that does not have a TA.
