Dumb Question. Can you use 6 volt lights on a converted 12 volt system?

The number I think is 1033,that is the 12 volt bulb with a 1157 base.Where I live they are hard to get, when John Deere had them, they were 6 bucks each.

I've got the 1133 6 volt bulbs, and I found where I can get a bulk lot of the 12 volt bulbs. Guess I oughta get some.

Yep for about 5 seconds and then they blow. Yes you could wire them up in series but that never works well because if you loose one the other one will not work.

Allan: Got a dozen or so sealed beams here, picked them up at an auction for 50 cents for the whole box, and they fit my 130 and 140, both 12 volt. Problem is they are not marked 6 or 12, however there are some of each. I thought I had them sorted trying on my 6 volt SA. I was having some light grounding problems decided to try what I though was a 12 volt in 140 tail light. Being confident I went to check headlights after turning them on. Got to the front, looked back and my shop door was lit up like town hall on spotlight side. I didn't make it to the switch.

You're a BRIGHT one, Allan! in reply to Allan In NE, 02-18-2008 14:23:58
You're a BRIGHT one, Allan!

Bill, IF they are sealed beams with two terminals, some folks have run a wire accross to the other side of the tractor, and connected them in series. Of course, you could use the appropriate resistor, as well, but at that point, why not just swap out the bulbs?
