MTA problem

Hello, my Super M-TA started running rough about a week ago, like it"s running out of gas. It only does it when the engine is warm. I snugged up the bolts on the intake manifold & it worked fine yesterday, but I had to push some show today & it started doing it again. I can keep it running somewhat if I fiddle with the choke. Actually, as I drove it into the shed tonite, the choke was all the way on. My fuel is good, the filter is clean, Spark plugs are good. Carb is clean. Any ideas what else I should look for?

Thanks in advance, Mike

check in the top of the sediment bowl where it goes into the tank. rust will plug that I fastened a tiny roll of aluminum screen to the top of the sed bowl and it has never done it again
good luck

OK, thanks for all the replies. I'm thinking it's a vacuum leak too. Like I mentioned, I snugged up the manifold bolts & it ran fine, til I used it again the next day. Maybe just a fluke? I suppose it could be a bad gasket there. I did check the screen at the end of the fuel line & that was fine.

Thanks again, I'll keep playing around with it.

Mike

I think Allen may be barking up the right tree. Most of the older Farmall's (mine included H, M, 400) like almost NO choke at all (I started them all last weekend when it was -8). Check for a vacuum leak either at the manifold or possibly at the carb flange.

Good luck!

Billy

If the other suggestions don't help check the manifold gasket and the manifold itself

Did you unhook your fuel line at the carb and remove the fitting going into the carb? There should be a screen in there. It might need cleaning.

Check float level in carb too.

As a general rule, Farmalls don't like a heck of a lot of choke, so if your tractor even runs with the choke all the way on, you've got to have a vacumn leak somewhere.

Gas cap vented? Check fuel flow for at least 30 seconds?
