blksvt04: I've read all of this thread, have to agree with you, "You don't have a clue about this, not even sure you have a clue about anything mechanical." DON'T TOUCH THIS TRACTOR, DON'T DRIVE IT AND ABOVE ALL DON'T DO ANYTHING MECHANICAL until you have a manual, because you don't even have a clue about terminology.

When you get the manual, park yourself beside the tractor, read the manual until you know the difference between all controls, read the lub section, just plain read the whole book. Find out how to identify every part of this tractor. As it stands right now, you are not capable of discussion. You confused and twisted most items everyone has told you, and for my money, most them did a good job.

I looked at this thread two days ago, decided it was a lost cause. What you need most is learn your terminology, and learn how to identify the various parts of the tractor. Bear in mind I'm not calling you stupid, but your making everyone else look stupid, and these guys aren't stupid. You've got some of the best minds on here that deal with these little tractors.

One thing here: Are you sure you don't have a CUB? A Cub would have a dipstick. A Cub's filter housing would be "factory welded" to the engine block. A Cub would have a hydraulic block under the gas tank. A Cub wouldn't have the serial number plate under the seat.

Someone who is new to tractors and engine maintenance may easily mistake a Cub for a Super A.

A Cub is much smaller.

A Cub has a one-piece hood and gas tank.

A Cub has only one hydraulic lever.

A Cub has the battery under the seat.

A Cub's serial tag is on the right front corner of the tractor, below the radiator.

Lay under your tractor, directly under the motor. Look up. You will be looking up at the oil pan. There is a drain plug in the bottom of the oil pan, just like a car would have. Take that plug out to drain the oil from the engine (with the motor OFF of course). Just think about it, the oil needs to come out the lowest point of the engine. That would be the bottom of the oil pan. The plug that is below the oil filter canister is just for draining the canister before removing the canister to replace the oil filter, so oil doesn't run everywhere.

To add oil, look at the pipe that attaches to the top of the engine. That pipe goes into the top of the valve cover. You pour the oil into the top of the valve cover (via this pipe) and it works its way down to the bottom of the engine, the oil pan.

To change the oil, undo the bolt holding on the canister cover. Remove the canister and replace the oil filter. Then remove the oil pan drain plug, drain out the old oil. Replace the drain plug. Pull the oil filler cap out and pour in five quarts of oil. Oil should run out of the upper pet cock used to check the oil (pet cock in left side of the oil pan). If oil is running out the pet cock, close it. You're ready to go.

NOTE: The canister assembly has a rubber O-ring that seals the canister to the canister base. You might need to replace this O-ring. Take a pointed object, dig out the rubber ring. Replace with a new rubber ring. Ring usually comes with the new filter.

Trying not to be too blunt, but you are in desperate need of an Owner's Manual. People are trying to answer your questions, but it is difficult to know where to start. Get a manual reprint from binderbooks<dot>com.

have the hydraulic system under the gas tank??

Where are you located maybe close enough so someone

might be able to show you all this stuff in person?

it is a super a b/c it says it beside the top cover...i cant get the filter out b/c the housing is not bolted but factory welded onto the oil pump behind the gauge..... and do u pure the oil in the pistons? yea the hydraulic is under the gas tank...put it this way my farmall looks identical to the one on page 1

Your filler is the cap that was pointed out in a picture down below. IF you peek down under the hood, you will see that it goes into the valve cover, which is at the very top of the engine.

It will take about five quarts for a fill.

The aircleaner, the other thing with the taller pipe that comes up through the hood, is on the left side of the engine, and has a cup on the bottom of it. The cup comes off by loosening the large thumbscrew on the band that holds it in place. empty the cup, clean it out and refill it to the line. It won't take a whole pint of oil.

You said it doesn't have a filter in it? Please put one in. NAPA stocks a Wix filter that will fit. Maybe somebody will chime in with the number. To replace it, remove the bolt from the top of the filter housing/cover (you have a picture of that, too). It's longer than the cover is tall, and should have a copper washer/crush gasket at the top when you remove it. Then the cover will lift right away. The new filter should come with a rubber gasket. This goes in the round slot you'll see when you remove the cover. I'd suggest you take your pen knife or something else sharp and make sure that the old gasket is not still in that slot. (If you try to put in a new gasket on top an old one, you're almost guaranteed a leak.) Then put the new gasket in place, put the filter in the center hole loosely, tip the cover back into place so that its bottom edge rests on that gasket, replace your bolt and snug it down.

what about the oil stick beside the oil filter??? cant i check it when putting oil to see how much i have in there other than turning the petcocks?

If there's a dipstick there, sure, use it. But the surefire way (the one I'd use for this first change) is to open the top petcock and fill until that starts to run, about five quarts, then close it back up. Then check the level on the dipstick to see if it matches. If so, you can use the dipstick to check your oil level going forward.

Howdy.
I happen to have a couple of pics. Here's the side of my oil pan- you use the two petcocks to check the oil level. If it comes out the upper, you're good. If it doesn't come out the lower, you need to add some.
The drain plug is JUST out of view, screwed into the rounded thing on the bottom. Mine has a threaded plug that has a square 1/2" extension to put a wrench on. It's at the lowest part of the pan.

third party image

The new oil goes in the tube under the cap with the pointer. The air cleaner is the taller one to the right. You can follow it down through the hood to a canister on the left side of the engine. The cup that needs oil is held onto the bottom of the canister.

You need a manual! The oil goes in the pipe that goes through the hood with the breather cap on it. THE LITTLE CAP, not the larger air cleaner cap. But, it uses the same oil in the cup at the bottom. Check the oil at the petcocks on the left side of the oil pan, fill until it comes out the upper one. It is about a quart low (or more) if nothing comes out the lower one. 10W-30, 15W-40 or straight 30W DETERGENT, forget non-detergent, we were using detergent oil in the 50's.
