I know that the topic of oil presure has been talked about a lot on the discussion board. I have taken the advise of several of you helpful guys and still has some what of a problem. First I started with 50psi cold presure and like most it would drop to 0-5 at idle. So I put in new main bearings and a oil pump that I knew was good and came from a good parts tractor. Then flushed the motor to get out the gum. I have put 30 weight oil in it now and put on a new oil gauge. Now I have 45-50 psi at 1500 Rpm 20-25 at idle cold, 25-30 hot and 5-10 at idle. Is there any thing else that I should do or check? Thanks

When we were putting our M back together my dad took notice of how loose the oil pick-up fit the pump . He was woundering if oil presure was bleeding off due to the loose fit .

It is held in with a roll pin ! He drilled it out for the next size bigger , for a better hold .

At that point he went to the hardware store to find the correct size rubber washer to go in between the pick-up and the pump. I think he found a faucit washer that was perfect ,letting it swing free and yet sealing .

We have great oil presure, grant you the motor was fresh and the pump was rebuilt to specs.

I ran this fix past a gentelmen on Red Power with a dozer they had a oil presure problem with . They had gone as far as replacing the pump , presure relief valve the hole nine yards [ fresh motor] . He replied back about a week later laughing that a $0.30 washer fixed the problem . So this is just a thought and it is easy to do.

I have found the oil pump to be the problem a lot of times. If condensation or any water sets in the bottom of the pump freezing will push the bottom plate down.just 2 thousands will make a large difference, Now I always take the pump to have it machined to the right clearance, My first experience with this was I had just purchased a 330 utility with very little oil pressure. The tractor had about 2000 hrs on it and I bought it from a neighbor who had a farm sale and kept the 330 to take to town. It had set in his town garage for several years.and hadn't been started more than 2 or 3 times. Luckily I talked to the shop foreman at our dealership, he advised taking the pump to the machine shop for refitting. Then I had full guage oil pressure at hot idle.

Yes, everything is pressure lubed - cam, rods, and mains.

Old hot rodder rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1000 rpm. So if you have 20 psi at WOT, you're good to go. At idle you don't need more than 5 psi.

Spec is 70 psi for the relief valve, though. Every H and M I've had will hold 70 psi all day and drop to maybe 50 psi at idle, hot.

Did you check the crank for wear? What about the rod bearings and journals? Cam bearings? Get the oil pump end clearance to spec. If everything is tight an M should hold 60-70 PSI hot at WOT and 40 PSI hot and idling.

Yep,

What that feller from North Carolina said.

All the bearings on the crank and the camshaft. She's gotta have pressure at that point.
