Hi everyone,
I finally received my voltage regulator from OEM Tractor Parts today that I ordered on the 8th. I'm putting it on my 1943 H today, my H used to have a cut out that was no good so that is why I'm using a regulator. Now my problem is the wiring- I printed out Bob's wiring diagram and wired it as shown, except one wire that goes to the generator is supposed to hook up the the "GEN" Terminal on the regulator. This new regulator has 4 terminals, F, L, BAT and 1 that says nothing. The one that does not say anything is on the bottom of the regulator, is that the GEN terminal? The only other terminal with no wires hooked up is the L terminal. I have shown 2 pics, one of the terminal on the bottom and one of the regulator on my H. Please tell me where the GEN terminal is, if it is the bottom terminal or not. Also, do I need to repolarize the generator when I put on this regulator or not? I appreciate any help. It is a new 12 volt regulator and a 12 volt generator.

Thanks!
Andy.

GEN is the bottom on 100% of the regulators I've seen. Polarize the generator before starting the engine by momentarily touching a jumper wire between "BAT" on the regulator and "A" on generator

Thanks. I put that wire on the GEN terminal and when I tried to polarize it, I got a big blue flash, I opened the regulator and everything looks fine in there. I think the generator is not putting out any charge, I bought it on eBay along with a oil gauge that was supposed to be in great condition, but was junk. I will take off the generator and take it in sometime and see whats wrong with it.

Thanks,
Andy.

i had to turn mine around so the terminals where on the inside so that it didnt short out against the hood

On my H there is plenty of clearance between the regulator and the hood so there is no way it will short out.

Thanks,
Andy.

On many 4 terminal Voltge Regulators (BAT FLD LOAD GEN) the Gen/Arm terminal is off on one side by itself or the bottom often unlabeled. On 3 terminal VR's the BAT ARM/GEN FLD are all side by side.

Its possible to use EITHER a 3 or 4 terminal VR n they both can work if wired correct.

BAT to load (not battery/starter) side of ammeter

ARM/GEN to geyys ARM post

FLD to gennys FLD post

LOAD feeds hot battery voltage up to the lights n ignition via a wire to their switches BAT input terminals

On a 3 terminal VR with no LOAD terminal, lights n ignition are fed off the ammeters Load terminal, same one that wires down to BAT on the VR. If you didnt use the 4 terminal L terminal the lights n ignition will still work if fed instead from the ammeters Load terminal, but if I had a 4 terminal VR and the tractor previously used a 3 terminal or cutout before, I would remove the lights n ignition voltage feed wires from the ammeter n instead wire feed them off the LOAD terminal on a 4 terminal VR

You didnt follow the instructions as your field wire isnt going to the field on the reg. Your instructions sould tellyou the Lis for the lites and there should have been a new wire that came with the reg.

No, I have the Field wire correct. The Generator's F terminal is connected to F on the voltage regulator.

Thanks,
Andy.
