The question is: Which would you rate as the better system Charlynn or Behlen in terms of performance and durability?.Searching for a complete set up and looking for some input.
Thank you all wise and knowing tractor gurus.
Vito

For a tractor being used as a toy either will be fine. I've only been around a few Behlens, but my experience has been that in a working situation like mowing hay where you are making quick, hard, square corners using the spinner on the steering wheel, that you could spin the wheel faster than the power steering could keep up. My personal preference is Char-lynn based upon that and not liking the appearance outside the hood oof a Behlen.

Have run tractors with Behlen and Char-Lynn. Horse a piece I say...

The Char-Lynn torque motor is more compact and easily hidden under the hood.

Personally, I'd like to try going to a hydraulic ram type steering with a rotary valve - like the newer series tractors, 1086, etc....

Have to agree 100% with the CharLyn unit they not only "look factory" but they work rather well. Worked on an M a few years back and the guy said that his PS had been going bad on him... I looked and he had run the unit with little or no fluid in it for a year! I had to prime the pump and fix the hoses and res. but i was impressed that after runing it that long with a load besides that it was still good! Thats my only experence with though but i thought that it was worth saying...

Oh i have been looking for one for my H with the loader for year not looking "hard" but looking and the only ones that i see for the most part that are good, are geting like 400 for them. heck i can but a whole 3 books for with that lol Andrew

I'd give the slightest edge to the Charlynn because it looks less obtrusive, since it is tucked out of the way under the hood. Both units are excellent performers. The Behlen is less likely to be in your way when the time comes you need to work around the front of your engine. I have a Behlen which came on my SM and I can't complain.

CharLyn every time. Because it installs under the hood.I have a complete kit,and the instruction manual for installtion, less the 201 gauge bracket for an M, SM, SMTA.
