Awww, it probably won't kill ya, but it will make an awful mess... Had a hose blow on me while Dad was dumping a trailer of rock into the creek. That was my first Hytran bath.

I used to think the black/galvanized iron pipe fittings were okay for hydraulics until the cheap Chinese fittings started splitting under 45PSI water!

If you look at them, they're thin and the seams are awfully thin.

Are you keeping the belly pump operational, too? I mean, you never know when you might want to use a good old Liftall cylinder on some cultivators...

As for black pipe, I've used that for hydraulic applications a lot and haven't had a problem.

Naw, it's unhooked.

If I can just get a 3-point strapped to this ol' sucker, then, I think I'm gonna quit. Just using up some of these extra parts I've had laying around here anyhoo.

Weather is warming up and I'm really itchin' to get back on my ol' combine project. :>)

Those fittings are likely to shatter in place like the concrete blocks under a cab on the ground. Killing someone, just like the black iron pipe fittings on out SH that have been threatening people for 55 years. My aunt lives 1/2 mile away and she is nervous every time we drive it.

Allan, did you make that block for the hoses to connect to the pump, or are they still available? I have a pump but missing the block, I was planning on just making one. thanks chris

Mornin',

Got the port block and the two pump gaskets from Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch.

O-rings, hoses and fittings came from the local tractor supply store.

Schedule 40 is good for 600psi CWP. Schedule 80 is good for I think 1000 CWP. Neither are rated for hydraulic service, but my Farmall has schedule 40 fittings all over it. I only change them out for hydraulic when I replace a line, not due to failure, but for appearance. 45 years, never ruptured a fitting.

Be safe if possible, use the correct parts if available and if not, do not reuse old Schedule 40 fittings, replace with new. Use schedule 80 if available, it is twice as thick and is steam rated.

Take a look at any H or M and you'll find the original cast pipe fittings that IH used for origianl equipment. What was good enough then is good enough today.

I wonder if those things will actually split. I will usually replace them with those made for hyd systems, also like the appearance better. But, a lot of people just use regular pipe fittings. I didn't know they were only rated at 125 psi, though. My air compressors put out 150, and those fittings are common. Lot of difference between 150 and 1200 though. Don't know how much pressure the C pump has, but when I ordered the 3 point and valve to go on my Saginaw 3 point, that's what Saginaw sent.

Dealers used to sell those things when ya needed a little extra oil for this or that.

We needed 'em to lift the hoists under sileage wagons with the old one-way belly pump.

wow allan, you're really dolling that m up with accesories!!!!! you gotta get some mud scrapers, a heat hauser winter canvas, a dc welder for the belt pulley, set of duals and a buggy top for er!!!! you'll be the envy of all the neighbors!!!!

The pipe ftgs Allen used in this application are Class 150 malleable iron ftgs ASTM 197-97 They have a standard rating of 300lbs, Water,oil or gas, Industry standards require systems to be tested to 2 to 5 times the operating pressures.The bad thing is 20 years ago we had several manufacturing places in the US that produced these. Now ,thanks to the tree huggers, most of them come from Shandong Mfg. China
