Dear Allan in Nebraska,
Your M really looks nice, but shouldn't the jar on the pre-cleaner be to the back rather than the front of the tractor? Which is correct?

Must be the sheltered life I have lived, but I have always seen the glass to the rear and never the front.

I don't know what's the proper direction for the pre-cleaner jar to face. I do know, though, my dad always told me the raincap hinge should face the front of the tractor so if you drove under a tree and hit a limb it wouldn't break the cap off.

First spray some penetrating juice on the threads, then put cool water in the jar until full to the threads. Use a hair blow dryer to warm the steel body at the threads. The difference in temp will loosen the interface. Use a towel to hold the jar and steel to assist grip. JimN

I am having a problem unscrewing the glass jar precleaner from the rain cap, due to rust on the thread of the rain cap I believe. This is for my Super BM restoration (its the UK Super M). Been putting of the job for sometime now. Any ideas on how best to make glass and steel part company without breaking the glass jar. Thank you

Use an old wooden handle screwdriver and go around the metal, tapping it parallel to the threads. Squirting a little rust busting solvent in the crack between glass will hep.

The raincap and precleaner jar always point forward.

Otherwise, the neighbors will laugh and point; might even snicker behind your back in at the poolhall with you being unaware. :>)

Seriously, I have never, ever seen one pointing backwards.

Both of my Cs and the Super C are pointed to the rear. I always thought that was the way so that it would reduce drag when you are screaming along at 10.25 mph. My C with 12.4-38s will actually step along about 12 mph, according to the county sheriff neighborhood portable speed detector. It did 13 on a down slope. Hard to control all of that speed.

White tin is on my ceiling. And 20 eight foot long, low temp, high output florescent bulbs. Blown in insulation above it. Neighbors come over to get a tan!

Because the Precleaner is a IH accessory (not standard equipment, but often ordered by the dealer if the tractor was to be put into inventory, or ordered if the tractor was "custom" ordered by the purchaser through the dealer) there is no correct orientation. There are pictures of the installed intake, but I do not know if instructions that say which direction it needs to be. The intake of air is still under the pipe in an anular set of fins, so it would make no difference which way it faced. If it was out sideways toward the left, it would still not get out past the side of the hood, but might be more likely to be hit by branches. JimN
