Now I read that some of the brake bands offered for sale do not fit the tractor and must be returned etc. Who offers brake bands that fit? We have no CaseIH dealer for over a hundred miles so what else is available? Need to replace mine in the next six weeks. Thanks, Henry

If you put the aftermarket brake bands in backwards they are to long and won't work. I've also sold lots of them from TISCO and A&I and haven't sent any back.

Pretty sure most dealers would ship you the parts you need with just a phone call.

OK heres the way it goes. Parts book lists 4 0r 5 brake bands so I called Case IH in Jasper GA just 80 miles away and inquired about brake bands and they came up with only one band available for my 51 M. The cost of each is 127$ plus shipping to get them in plus shippng to me or I could spend mmost of a day and 8 gals of gas at $3.15 to go get them. I guess Ill take my chances elsewhere. Take note that there are different bands for different tractors. I will bet that there are different size drums around. Henry

Henry,

You really need to talk to Rusty Farmall.

While you were writting your response, I did a couple of mouse clicks and the band is on the way to me and will be delivered to my front door in a day or two.

You just can't beat this guy and his prices. Plus, he bends over backwards to make his customers happy.

Save some money and get treated right in the process.

Allan

A few years ago, the corporation that he worked for closed his doors and left him swingin' out there in the wind and cold.

Some of us suggested that maybe he go to work for himself.

Looks like he did and it looks like it's really working from what I can tell. So darned refreshing to get that kind of service again in this country.

That lad walks pretty darned tall in my eyes. :>)

Regardless whether you get them from CIH or another supplier, they are all aftermarket. The last set I bought about 5 years ago came from Value Built, I had to cut about 5/16in out and reweld them,From then on I take them to a clutch and brake shop and have them relined, also take my disc pads there also. They use a softer compound in their linings and they hold real well. Costs are about the same a repacements.

Is it possibly a question of assembly? Looks to me like it would be very easy to put 'em back together using the "short throw"?

Dunno,

Why dont you just get some linning and rivets and you will be all set. Not that hard to do.

That is a good idea, but where do you find new brake lining material? It used to be as common as dirt, but not any more.

Rusty seems to me its easier to ask on a computer that to look in the yellow pages. These simple questions come all the time when if someone would stop and think where do i find this part.

I'm wondering if maybe the problem is not so much that the new bands are too long, as it is that the drums are worn down? Don't know.

Is there a specification for the drum size? that may help solve the problem. Henry

Boy, I dunno.

It would take some serious grindin' to pull that pinion wheel down. They're not like an auto brake in that the speed just isn't there.

Have no idea, but if the IH bands always seem to work, then it's gotta be a question of quality, don't ya think?

I've sold brake bands that came from Tisco, and also from A&I, and I've never had any complaints, but that doesn't mean the bands were a perfect fit either. I have not used either of them on my own tractors, so I really can't say one way or the other. I can just about bet that no matter what dealer the bands come from, they probably all originate from the same place.
