SA Touch Control Progress

I cleaned, cleaned, cleaned, everthing today and will do more before reassembky. I still can't find source of the noise/rattle when I turn the block over(and over). I was sucessful in cleanig up the scratch in the cylinder bore with crocus cloth. It looks like I'll have to replace one or both pistons due to rust and pits.

Thanks for posting these pictures. I have to tear into my unit...1949 and to my knowledge it has never been opened...to try and figure out why it is leaking. These give me a good idea of what to expect. Based upon Hugh's comments, it appears you may have posted other pictures that I must have missed. If so, or if you have any others you didn't post, would you mind emailing them to me? Also, and tips you can offer to help me avoid trouble will be most appreciated.

I had been out of town for the past two weeks, and had not read all the back messages when I posted my request. I have now worked my way through them and think I found most of what you sent me.

That said, the guys on this forum are great. I am continually amazed at the time spent helping others. Sure wish the world in general could mange itself this same way.

You've got to wonder how many generations these little tractors will last. I'm sure most of the folks that bought them new are now deceased. Now the sons are starting wonder if they'll outlast the tractor, and many of them are in the hands of grandsons with a few ?????. Heck we even got a great grandson getting interested. I wonder how many new tractors being built today will get to the hands of great grandsons.

Now the question is, do I paint then have leak a year or two from now, or do I tear into it just like you guys have. I got a week or two to scratch my head on that one.

Your package is in the mail, let me know when it arrives, and if you have any questions, let me have them. I just hope you got it all, I had so much paper floating around here last couple of days, was hard to keep track of it all, or at least to make sure everyone got at least one of each page.

Having met up with 130 when I was a mere 16 years old, then having owned 6 of these since, I was thinking I might just get through lift without doing a hydraulic kit. Looks like it's not one of the more exciting events of life. I guess however you are telling me to bite the bullet and do a kit, not leave it for the young folk.

You know if you dont do it now soon as you get it painted it will leak. You have the gas tank off and the battery box off so now is a good time to do it where you dont have to remove all that again. When you remove the bottom plug to drain it, stand to the side. Dont ask me how I know this lol.

Greg, Love the pictures and the way you have it all layed out. Sure does help when you start putting things back together and you know for sure where things go. When I did my restoration I put the bolts and things in seed envelops and paper bags and wrote on there where they went. You think you will will remember where things like that go but after a few days you forget. I had one table top filled with bags and stuff but it all went back like it should.

Wish I had that vise, thats one thing I really need.

I wasn't going to admit it on the forum. Just glad to know I'm not alone.
