I have a Super A that has a woods belly mower on it. When mounted, the brakets that bolt on to the final drive housings cover up the fill plugs for the final drive. I have to remove the brackets to check the oil level in the final drives. Has any one ever cut holes in the brackets so it can be checked without dropping the woods brakets ?

I have seen this done before. You need to accurately layout to cut the holes and don't cut them any larger than necessary. The one I am aware of had a machine shop cut the holes. However, I believe it could easily be done on a drill press with a metal cutting (high speed steel) hole saw.

Good question but if the pan is full of 90wt and there are no leaks there realy isnt any reason to check the level is there.

Yes Gene you are correct. The oil should stay in the pans and if there is a leak at the out drive or a pan gasket you should notice it. I have however heard of the pans occasionally getting dented in on the bottom and then the gear rubs a small hole in the pan later on. It is possible to loose your fluid while mowing and not know it. I thought that an easy access to the fill plug would be a good idea but I didn't know if the 3/4 inch hole would hurt the Woods bracket structurally.
