Is this repairable or is it anything to worry about? The bearings did come off over that gouge with a little tapping.

Added more pics to my website also.

Looks to me that this was caused by a bad bearing in the first place. If the bearing slides on there confortably without any slop around, I think that the 60 year estimate would be good. Was the old bearing frozen up?

Axle is OK but your dust cover and seal are toast.

If the bearings fit on there okay, it should be fine.

I usually put a nick in the shaft to keep the bearing race from turning on the shaft. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you've modified your H to go 60 miles an hour...

The bearing should be a slip fit on the spindle, not a press fit. They are designed to be able to turn slightly on the spindle so that the wear can be distributed more evenly on the inner race over the life of the bearing. If they did not turn they would wear out sooner due to loading on the bottom side.

If the bearing will slide over the nick in the shaft, there should not be a problem.

You bet!

Dress 'er up just a tad and slide those new races right on there. Probably will last another 60 years or so. :>)
