actually its a 230 Jim number 6,7and 8 seems to move ok number 3 thru 10 doesent move at all. the depthelimiting gauge slider is all the way to the top next to the clevis. the cylinder will close all the way down but will only raise about 3 1/2 inches then loads the engine . ill get it figured out . thanks to you guys giving me some insight as to how its supposed to work . right now i'm just piddling with it cause i've been out of work for 6 weeks with a rotator cuff repair. kinda one arming things right now lol in about 6 or 8 more weeks ill get back to work then maybe i can get serious working on this old dude

I'll add to the great info from Mr. Becker. The mechanical traction Control was marginally successful. A first attempt. This one looks to be from a 350, 350U, or 450 series. The components will not limit the cylinder travel. The cylinder will bend these components (or break them free from rustiness) easily. So these will not be the cause of your grief. There is a depthelimiting gauge slider on the cylinder, and that only limits down depth. other than that I think it is a hydraulic issue, or non stock cylinder. JimN

That handle sets the sensitivity of the traction control. Equipment load pulls back on the lever at the bottom of #8, which causes forward movement of the lever on top of #8. Increaed load pulls forward on the rod #7. The rod pulls on the upper end of #9, working against a torsion bar. The extent that the upper end of #9 moves determines how much lift is applied at the cylinder to transfer weight from the implement onto the tractor tires. Moving the handle up raises the contact point of #7 on #9. The higher the contact point, the more leverage #7 has and the more the hitch will respond to the changes in load.

As far as how well it works, there have been 2 recent threads on that subject.
