What Does The Differential Lock On A IH 1486 Do, Lock Drive Train For Parking Or Lockup The Drive Wheels As One Under Power? And What Advantage Is There In Having One.

The diff lock is to lock the rear end so that both wheels pull at the same time. Just as positraction does in a car.

If one wheel gets to spinning in a slick spot you can hit the diff lock to get the other side to help pull through and help from getting stuck.

You could do the same by tapping the brake on the wheel that is spinning. But if you tap to hard that wheel will stop and the other will spin.

Diff lock makes them both pull even.
