Pulled the cover off the Super M to fully clean things up.
Does anyone know off hand if the gasket is available from IH and about what they run? Has anyone had luck using RTV silicone instead?

Thanks guys!

I'll go with the silicone then. I've got a big tube of Permatex loaded in the caulk gun ready to go.

Now, I've got two gallons of pudding if anyone's hungry! (Also a gallon of sludge)

Cover gaskets for an H are available, so I'd be surprised if ones for an M weren't also. I think that it was about $30. The gasket had dried out and shrunk. Soaking them in water for 20 minutes brings them back to full size. Wipe the water off and install it. Be careful not to rip the gasket when it is wet.

I stopped buying the gaskets and went to using straight silicon. The last 4 trannys I had to go into, 3 Ms and 1 H, I could never get the gasket to fit properly. (holes off, not cut right, etc.) Havent had one leak yet.

To answer your question..... allot. I think last price I got was $89 or so. Its BS.

Clean the sealing surfaces perfectly, I mean absolutley free of any oil or mess. Run a bead of grey silicone (permanent adhesive stuff) around the lip, being sure to get around the threaded holes good, and let it sit and get tacky to the touch. You want it to dry just to the point of where it doesn't stick to your finger when you touch it put is still soft and sticky.
Set the cover back down on this and tighten her up. Makes a great seal.

"Permanent adhesive"? Those covers are tough enough to get off as it is.

I've had good luck with the blue RTV, and the cover will come back off.
