The set on the left is what was used on the early IH tractors. At least that is what came on my MTA when I bought it.

The center set is what was used on the 460's thru the 56 series. Pioneer

The set on the right is what was used on the 66 and 86 series. Called IH couplers.

Now the newer CaseIH tractors are back to using the Pioneer fittings but are calling them ISO.

ISO is suppose to be and industry standard and used by all companies including Deere.

Not to be contradicting Steven-----but the IH connectors on the right [1066 era] are made to couple under pressure. After inserting the male [hose] end, you pull the lever--opening both male & female "balls" at once. Maybe our connectors are different than most others, but they are what came on it from the factory. Only trouble with these connectors is that they tend to get dust/dirt in the female end which has to be cleaned out every so often. I use a 1 inch paint brush to clean dust from around the hydraulic block before disconnecting the lines--extends cleaning intervals by 4 times.

standardized is pretty sweet. ideally that is best to have everything standardized. specialty couplers still have their place, such as a power beyond that you couple and uncouple frequently, or a specialized application that you dont want hired help mistakenly plugging into. there are some better high flow couplers than the pioneer out there now, and all kinds of sizes that are standardized.

there is a pioneer type lever valve body similar in concept to the IH66 series but not as nice looking. it's not worth the price, but the lever coupling should work pretty slick.

I think if you are using your tractor daily you should use something that's standardized and improved. they have come a long way since the 50s or earlier.

Yup, almost all tractors have been ISO since the late 80's. I have a whole shelf of adapters. Old IH to ISO, old IH to Old JD, Old JD to old IH. Dad never just put ISO on the implements and put the adapters in each tractor to convert them to ISO he had a mixture of couplers on tractors and implements, what a mess.

The ISO coupler is now getting to be used in all hyd. uses agricultural and non ag. Also is being a world wide standard, with different threads.

I believe the "button" couplers you show were Aeroquip brand. My dad bought the kit when he changed the M to two way hydraulics.

You are 100% correct on your couplers, they were all used on IH but you are missing one. It is a coupler like the one in the middle, which I call a pioneer, instead of a ball in the center it had a point and it would couple to the pioneer. The pointed coupler was the one on our 62 560 when we bought it new. It could have been a customer preferance,I don't know. When dad split the H,we changed to pointed coupler, it was easier to connect under pressure. When the newer style coupler on the right came out we made adapters so we could enterchange the cylinders. I remember the coupler on the left on the 2 400's we had, we eventually changed them to pioneer, So I don't believe the pointed coupler was around our area in N. Iowa in the late 50's.

both the ball and the pointy i consider pioneer. the pointy is called poppet type. there were a lot of variations for awhile that all plugged into pioneer, seemed JD and IH were about the only really odd ones. a parts guy told me one time he had some JD to IH adaptors that he hadn't sold in 20 years and probably wouldn't sell in another 20 lol...

They make kits to put the ISO/Pioneer couplers into the IH blocks so you can connect under pressure. Guy I worked for installed them on his Hydro 86, 966, and 504... worked pretty slick.

Gary: Couplers on the laet I had on my 300. I had pioneers on my 560, 504 and 656 and the one on the right on my 1066, but I also had a set of pioneer adapters for it. By that time I also had pioneers on 300. Basically by 1976, all I was using were pioneers.
