As I was downloading the Gary Phillips auction ( it took along time for all 16 pages to load) it made me wonder what selling 5000 tractors and 15000 implements would have on the tractor market, I think that it would have to at least, for a little while, depress the antique tractor market just from the sheer $$$ involved, nobody will have any money left to spend on day 7 of the auction for that "deal" that always comes around.

It sure looks like a auction of a life time to attend.

Was he a dealer? How did he accumulate that much?

From what I "read" on other forums, it was a tractor salvage yard, and most of the stuff is what is left after they sold the rare and/or important stuff. they have been talking about no place to park, limited motel space within a decent distance, a lot of scrapers will be there, that is what I have been led to believe is left to sell, the stuff no one wanted. Some of the stuff I have seen in the brochure they sent me looked pretty rough.

I drove by the sale site yesterday they sure have a lot of stuff lined up. Most of what is lined up looks well used. I will be driving by on sale day also.

I would not waste my fuel and time going to a sale that charge admission and buyers fees

Exactly. I will not go to an auction that charges admission and/or a buyer's premium.

It is the seller's responsibility to pay the auction service.

This has been written about a lot on various antique sites. Seems he was a salvage yard guy. The "word" is (I don"t know if this is factual) that a lot of the stuff is junk or close to junk or only good for parts. If that"s true, then it probably won"t command a big price and won"t affect the market much. You would have money to spend if you only attended day 7 of the auction :)
