I am a regular on the Ford 9N, 2N, 8N forum. My neighbor has an International 544 and has asked my help with a tune up. I can find the new plugs (Champion D21 or Autolite 3076) but I am having some trouble finding the points, condenser and distributor cap. I know I can buy on-line at YT, but would like to do the job this weekend. Does anyone know of a retailer like NAPA, Autozone or the like that carries the ignition parts and if they have a part number for them? I live in Castle Rock Colorado and the nearest Case IH dealer is about 75 mi. away. Ant suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

the points for my 656 are napa 1603. the fixed end has an offset to it. the fixed end on the napa 1600 set has no offset. i don't know which end your points have, but i would expect them to be the same as the 656. fwiw.

when I did a tune up on my 544 The kit that I got from mills fleet farm had the wrong points in it. I"m in the boat business and showed it to one of the mechanics and he told me it was just a standard delco set up. So i bought one for a 4 cyl mercruiser and it fit perfect.

Any Chance there is a Tractor Supply Co. or Gebo's, or any other store of this type close by? You should be able to pickup a tune up kit from there. I doubt they will have the spark plug wires, but most likely will have them that you can cut down to the proper length. Just an idea and place to try.

No, I don't have a TSC near by, but there is a "Big R". I will try them.

Take the points along, I believe CIH lists two different sets and we always seem to get the wrong set the first time around...

My NAPA store says the number on the points is CS788 and RR176 on the condenser. Points are around $14.00. Hal
PS: I would take the old points along.

El Toro:

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. Those "kids" at NAPA can get it if I have their number for them. Any chance you have the number for the cap?

Well if your area is like mine ya don't have anybody in the parts stores that can read a book and do not stock anything that does not fit a Cheve or Toyota . In which case the drive to the Case I H store is a ride well spent. A GOOD NAP store that has just one person that has at lest a 10 watt light bulb for a brain SHOULD be able to come up with everything you need .

The problem is getting them counter guys to find the part numbers. If they can't find it on the computer they won't bother to try and look in the printed books anymore to cross the numbers.

Oh sure,

All those parts houses carry the tune up stuff.

Most all of the ignition stuff crosses over among a large list of tractors too.

Thanks allan.

I went to the NAPA web site & they didn't show the disributor cap, points & rotor there, but I will go to the store & see if they can look them up.
