I have a 1952 Farmall Super M with a 2000 loader "jerry rigged" onto it. Every time i lower the bucket hydraulic fluid shoots out the breather on the return line. I have tried to make the breather tube longer and larger, but all tries at getting rid of this promblem have failed. If there is any advice on how to fix this problem it is much appreciated. I have pictures but can"t figure out how to post them on this site. -David Goode Coggon, IA

Take the hose off of the inlet fill pipe.
get a pipe T and a close nipple that fits the thread of the drain. put the nipple (with teflon pipe goo on the threads)into one of the strait T female threads. Put the plug in the opposite end (with goo). screw it into the drain hole plug down and tighten till the side T threads are facing rearward. Attach the hose from the return to the side T threads (with goo).

Replace the stock breather on the top of the inlet pipe and all is well. JimN

I don't know if it is necessary or if you have the ground clearance, but if you point the bullplug in the tee going down, you will create a small depository for catching any small metal pieces or heavy crud that may get in your hydraulic oil. Momentarily removing the plug will get rid of anything that settles in there.

The oil returning to the oil fill hole is the problem. As you retract the cylinders you are displacing an amount of oil equal to the volume of the cylinder rams. This is the same as adding oil to the reservoir. As the additional oil returns to the reservoir, air must be displaced to allow the oil in. The air coming out will carry some of the oil with it causing the problem you are having. Plumbing the return into the drain hole will cure your problem.

Now, if I plumb the hydraulics like this where does the breather plumb into? would it be plumbed into the return on the top of the resevoir? -David Goode Coggon, IA

And here is how you add a picture here. Upload a picture to the Tractor Photos on the left of this site, then once the picture is posted right click on it, open properties and copy the>Link
It's easier than I am making it sound here.

third party image

Plumb the return into the drain plug. That's how I did my H. Keeps all the foam from coming out the breather.

I sent you an e-mail. I think you are ignoring one fundamental rule of hydraulic systems. You are looking in the wrong place. J.

If you don't have the lift on 2 way the just goes back to the tank and none to the other side of the cylinder. The problem you is hard to stop.
We use to add an other tub tank to the fill port that was about a quart just to hold the air from the back force.
