I did an in-frame rebuild last winter & have been fighting what has come down to a plug fouling problem. I run it about 20 minutes or so about 3 times a week. I rebuilt the carb & distributor at the same time so I started with the carb, then the distributor and got them squared away and I think I've got it down to #2 fouling. When I put in new plugs, they'll work great until I idle it for ~5 minutes and it starts acting like i've got the wires crossed. If I pull #2 plug, wire brush it, it works great again as long as I run it at 1/2 to full throttle.

I've tried Champion & Auto-lites. I had the head rebuilt by an experienced guy.

I've played with the valve setting. I'm getting discouraged. Might I have a problem with the Valve levers being worn to the point that I might have a lot of trouble setting the gap? can these be reground? or replaced?

Sorry for the long post, Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Steve K.

Work that M for a few hours under a good load to seat the rings, and then see what happens.

Try leaning your carb up a bit. When burning a bit to rich the number 2 and or 3 will be the first to foul.

When it fouls pull the plug wire off untill it has a nice gap to jump. It should fire then. After running a while plug it back on tight or leave it as is. David.

When you remove the plugs does #2 look different than the rest? What does it look like ? Is it wet . If you put that plug in a different cly will it work and foul the new plug? Maybe a bad wire or cap. Try to isolate the problem or move it to a different cyl then it'll be identified. Carbs dont discriminate its probably electrical

Try NGK A-7 on #2 and see if that helps. Worked for me.

sounds like the rings on your #2 cyl. could be installed up side down.this will pump the oil out instead of pulling it back down the cyl.
